The K-6 Program:
Teaching Basic Character Strengths
SPUR’s K-6 curriculum fosters 12 essential character strengths that simultaneously meet the Social and Emotional Learning Competencies outline by DESE: Gratitude, Generosity, Forgiveness, Awareness, Authenticity, Compassion, Empathy, Love, Flexibility, Collaboration, Curiosity, and Perseverance.
Students examine these issues through three lenses: My World (self-awareness); Your World (immediate community) and Our World (the greater community). SPUR offers students the community engagement essential to learning through our volunteer programs. These hands-on opportunities reinforce character strengths through project-based work that is engaging and fun for a younger audience.
